Navigating High School

"High School" — two words that hold the power to intimidate any freshmen. As many freshmen enter unfamiliar environments, doubts and questions inevitably arise. What will high school be like? Will I have to dodge garbage to walk down the hallway? Will it be as hard as our middle school teachers warned us it would be? Will the countless hours spent trying to perfect an essay and the endless repeats of a video all be worth it? Countless concerns and uncertainties fill the hearts of those new to this school. With a heart full of uncertainty and questions, many enter Bard and take time to adjust to the longer commutes and the increased workload compared to middle school.
As time passes, most 9th-grade students adapt and realize that BHSEC is different. It is filled with supportive people eager to learn and spread positivity. The abundance of opportunities and the support of those around us make the struggles feel worthwhile, aiding the achievement of our Associate in Arts degrees and the formation of lasting friendships.
This experience is something many 9th-grade students can relate to — whether you are a ninth grader now or were one in the past, you can admit to having at least one of these feelings. As the new year approaches, I wish everyone a happy and successful year.
