Model UN team goes to Charm City

February 2019

A few weeks ago, a group of students from BHSEC banded together to walk into the unchartered territory of the Johns Hopkins University Model UN Conference. In Baltimore, they found good food, great friends, and memorable experiences.

This year’s Model UN team was particularly different than in the past considering the number of underclassmen who chose to join. The majority of the team was relatively new to the experience of multi-day conferences and were ecstatic about this opportunity. This team is definitely preparing itself for many successful years ahead, as the most important thing in Model UN is to enjoy your time with the people you meet and get to know better. Sometimes they win awards too, and at this conference, Sinziana Stanciu (Y1) won the award for Outstanding Delegate for her work in the International Court of Justice. Although we did not win as many awards as in the past, this conference was most definitely a good experience for the students who are just starting out their Model UN journeys. The Under Secretary General, Stanciu, is more than satisfied with the work of the delegates and their concern regarding the issues was exemplary. This team is heading towards becoming one of the strongest BHSEC has ever seen.

Thanks to the chaperones, Prof. Rockenbach, Prof. DuCett, and Prof. Marasigan, they had an enjoyable trip that led to new learning experiences. Evan Farley (Y1), the Secretary-General of Model UN at BHSEC, expressed his happiness and gratitude at the end of the conference: “Thank you to you all for coming and being great delegates! I enjoyed spending these past few days with you and hope that you had a great time. Thank you to the chaperones who made this trip a smooth one and we can’t wait for the next conference!” The delegates who made it on this trip were Maddie Boyce (10th), Miles Danielski (9th), Luke Delaney (10th), Espy Delgado (Y1), Farley , Darya Foroohar (Y1), Noah Fried (9th), Declan Gunn (10th), Annie Morrison (9th), Victoria Mui (Y1), Anik Schorer (10th), and Stanciu.
