It’s that time of the year again! Stress levels are rising, candy grams are being sold by anxious SLT reps in the library, and winter break is fast approaching. As BHSEC students, we mostly use breaks to sleep and catch up on work, which is why the Bardvark is here to help you do more productive, fun things with your time. Here is a list of cute, wintery things to do this break.

Skating in Bryant Park Pricing: $$$$

This is one of my personal favorites. The ice skating rink is right under the ginormous Bryant Park Christmas tree, complete with cute wintery music that plays throughout the park, making  the experience all the more magical. The park is also filled with small shops selling anything from scarves and hats to hot cider and donuts. The pricing is a little expensive, so I would recommend saving this activity for a special hangout with friends or family.

Dyker Heights Holiday Lights Pricing: $ (train fair)

Dyker Heights residents take the holidays very seriously. Houses in this neighborhood are decorated with thousands of colorful lights, life-size Santas and elves, and anything else you can possibly think of. Walking around and admiring the decorations is completely free but you might find yourself spending a few dollars on food and train fare. Visiting Dyker Heights is a great way to escape the city for a few hours and catch a glimpse of what the holidays look like in the suburbs.

Holiday Market in Union Square Pricing: $$$ (varies)

The holiday market is the best place to do some last minute gift shopping. It has an enormous variety of shops that sell anything from journals to face masks, body scrubs, and lots of jewelry. There are also numerous food carts selling waffles, hot cider, hot chocolate, and even full meals. The market is a great place to hang out with friends and family and the atmosphere gives off warm and fuzzy vibes even in the freezing cold.

Go See The Grinch in Theaters Pricing: $$$ (on any day)/$ (on Tuesdays in AMC theaters)

Going to the movies is always a great way to spend time with friends and family, and what better movie to see than The Grinch. The cartoon is a reprise of the 2000 classic, How The Grinch Stole Christmas. The story is great, the graphics are awesome, and the script is hilarious. Movies are overall a bit pricey, but AMC offers $5 tickets on Tuesdays, so there is no excuse not to go!

Movie Night With Friends Pricing: $

For those of you that do not want to get out of your house (aka most of us), the best option is a movie night with your best friends or family. Just cuddle up on your couch or bed, grab some snacks and hot chocolate, and watch some of your favorite movies. Here are some suggestions: To All Boys I’ve Ever Loved Before, Harry Potter (all), Clueless, Mean Girls, Home Alone, and Elf.
